COURSE DESCRIPTOR

Eighth grade language arts is a required course for all eighth graders.  Although divided into two periods, the class cohesively integrates literature-based text, informational-based text, writing, language, speaking and listening skills.Students demonstrate state learning standards with the support of direct instruction, literacy workshop models, inquiry-based learning, project-based learning, & technology integration.  

 

Throughout this course, students build upon prior knowledge in literacy as well as incorporate critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, & communication.In eighth grade, students exhibit literacy growth using a broad definition of text through authentic written expression, group/whole class discussions, & student-created presentations.
