Classroom Grading Practices

This space is dedicated to understanding how learners in this class will be assessed throughout the year. When thinking about true learning and what it means to be a learner, it's important to understand the characteristics that learning holds. For our class, we will be assessing learning using 3 primary characteristics: Participation, Progress, and Performance.

Students will complete a weekly reflection using the 3Ps and the teacher will then conference with learners to discuss their reflections, provide additional observations, and discuss how to support learners as the learning journey continues.

PARTICIPATION

For our class, participation will count the MOST (50% of your grade). Learners who participate can't help but continue their learning journey and strengthen their skills. Every week, learners will be responsible for completing a participation self-assessment (see below) in connection to our classwork. Learners will have to propose a grade that fits their participation at that time, reflect on why that grade was chosen, and provide evidence from class that supports the reflection.

PROGRESS

For our class, progress will count for 30% of your grade. Learners who continue to show progress can't help but continue their learning journey and strengthen their skills. Every week, learners will be responsible for completing a progress self-assessment (see below) in connection to our classwork. Learners will have to propose a grade that fits their progress at that time, reflect on why that grade was chosen, and provide evidence from class that supports the reflection.

PERFORMANCE

For our class, performance will count for 20% of your grade. Learners who have participated and shown progress can't help but demonstrate strong performance. Learners will be responsible for completing a performance self-assessment (see below) in connection to our classwork every midterm and quarter. Learners will have to propose a grade that fits their performance at that time, reflect on why that grade was chosen, and provide evidence from class that supports the reflection.
